The Ministry of Health discussed measures to reduce maternal mortality
A discussion on the results of the functioning of the perinatal service in 2025 took place at the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting was chaired by Minister Damirbek Osmonov.

The main focus of the meeting was on improving the quality of medical care for mothers and newborns, as well as measures to reduce risks associated with maternal and infant mortality.

Raisa Asylbasheva, the chief specialist of the Department of Organization of Medical Care and Pharmaceutical Policy, presented a report. She provided a detailed analysis of the state of the perinatal service, highlighting key performance indicators and the tasks facing the service in the future.

According to her information, the country has a three-level system of perinatal care that ensures continuity and consistency in the provision of medical services. Specialized third-level care is provided in institutions such as the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the Kyrgyz Scientific Center for Human Reproduction, and the maternity hospital of the Osh Interregional Clinical Hospital.

The healthcare system operates 2,167 maternity beds, 741 gynecological beds, and 521 beds for pregnant women with pathological conditions.

Meeting participants noted that the coverage of pregnant women with antenatal care remains high at 91.7 percent.

The Ministry also reported on the ongoing strengthening of the service's infrastructure. In particular, perinatal centers are being built in the Talas and Osh regions, which will improve access to specialized care for women from the regions and reduce the routing time for patients.

The meeting also presented an analysis of the causes of maternal mortality for 2025. As a result, the ministry formulated a set of systemic measures aimed at improving the quality of medical services, increasing human resources, optimizing the routing of pregnant women, and developing digital technologies in medical services.

Priority areas for the development of the perinatal service until 2030 include optimizing obstetric and gynecological care with an emphasis on prevention, improving the monitoring system for pregnant women and patient routing, updating antenatal care standards with a focus on the quality of medical assistance, implementing modern prenatal screening technologies, and creating a genetic laboratory.

Additionally, there are plans to develop family planning programs and prepare women for pregnancy, implement remote consultations for regional hospitals, and improve the material and technical base of obstetric-gynecological and neonatal services.
