In the Chuy region, in the city of Tokmok, the construction of two new facilities has begun in the villages of Vinogradnoe and Chym-Korgon after the closure of the old livestock market.

According to local authorities, the new livestock market in Chym-Korgon is being built on a site of 11 hectares.

The head of the Chym-Korgon rural council, Almaz Dubanaev, reported that out of the allocated 11 hectares, 5 hectares will be directly designated for the livestock market, while the remaining 6 hectares are planned to accommodate trading and service facilities, such as canteens, shops, and points of sale for construction materials.

Currently, the construction of covered trading rows, sanitary facilities, a prayer room, as well as police and veterinary service points is underway. Electricity and clean drinking water have been supplied. Locations for the installation of video cameras will be determined shortly based on recommendations from the local police, which will take one to two days. The work is being carried out by the company that won the tender, while local residents are participating in the construction of facilities not included in the contract as part of the Ashar initiative.

Turmush reported in December 2025 that the livestock market in Tokmok will be relocated to a new area, and modern multifunctional facilities are planned to be built on the site of the old market. This initiative was announced by Mayor Altynbek Ergeshov during a meeting with traders.

The livestock market in Tokmok is one of the largest in northern Kyrgyzstan and serves as an important place for livestock trading in the Chuy region, where various animals such as cows, sheep, horses, and bulls are sold.

According to the mayor, the current market does not meet modern sanitary, veterinary, and urban planning requirements. Its proximity to the highway and residential areas poses risks to the safety and comfort of the population.

As a result, a decision was made to relocate the market to a new site that is close to the current location but away from the road and residential houses. This is expected to ensure greater safety and convenience for both traders and local residents.

The mayor also pointed out the high potential of the current market area for the further development of the city. Plans include attracting investors, including foreign ones, to implement projects on this site.

The project includes the construction of multifunctional buildings of a new format and the creation of a business space focused on technology and innovation.

According to the city administration, the new livestock market will provide all necessary conditions: modern infrastructure, compliance with sanitary and veterinary standards, as well as safety and comfort for all participants.

Representatives of the Chuy District State Administration reported that the new market, which will be relocated from Tokmok, is planned to be built in the eastern part of the village of Vinogradnoe. “However, at the moment we cannot provide exact data on the area of the site and the start dates for the work. The project is in the planning stage, and all information will be available after the completion of the documentation,” they stated.

Traders involved in livestock sales noted that the Tokmok market had an important advantage. “If the new market is not too far from the road and all conditions meet the standards, we will get used to the new place. But the Tokmok market had one significant convenience: there were food and spontaneous markets nearby where various goods, including auto parts, could be purchased. Now we will have to go back to Tokmok for shopping after selling livestock,” they shared.

Turmush previously reported that the private livestock market in Tokmok will be closed starting January 1, 2026. Inspections by regulatory authorities (the municipality and sanitary service) revealed that the market was operating on a commercial basis with charges for the placement and sale of animals.

At the same time, the market owners did not provide the necessary investments for the development and maintenance of sanitary and veterinary infrastructure.

The closure of the market was a result of systematic violations of veterinary-sanitary and environmental standards, as well as non-compliance with safety and infrastructure requirements.

Despite numerous warnings and directives, the market owners did not take the necessary measures to address the identified violations and modernize the infrastructure.

Trading in agricultural animals in this area is being halted. During this time, farmers and sellers are advised to use other existing livestock markets in the region, as well as online platforms and messengers for selling livestock. The sale of animals will be organized at specialized sites that meet established requirements.
