Customers of cafes and restaurants in Kyrgyzstan are confused by the new prices
As of January 1, 2026, a law came into effect in Kyrgyzstan prohibiting catering establishments from charging service fees. This decision was made by the country's government.
Now establishments cannot add the usual 10-15% to the order total for service, which has resulted in these percentages being hidden in the prices of dishes. As a result, the menu prices have significantly increased, which has already caught the attention of social media users in Kyrgyzstan.
For example, in some establishments, a portion of manti now costs 400 soms (instead of the previous 200-250 soms), layered samsas – 100 soms (previously the price ranged from 75 to 85 soms), and a teapot of tea – 150-400 soms (last year the price was between 100-250 soms).
