Azamat Kerimbek uulu, the director of the "Legprom" association, initiated a proposal to create a specialized department for the garment industry within the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan.

At a meeting of the "Ala-Too" parliamentary group, where pressing issues of the garment sector were discussed, the entrepreneur shared information about the difficulties faced by garment workers in recent times.

He emphasized that a significant portion of sales today is conducted through marketplaces.

“In 2003, a patent system for garment workers was introduced in Kyrgyzstan, which was abolished in 2023. Over two decades, 9,800 garment workshops were opened. In 2023, the Wildberries marketplace began collaborating with Kyrgyz garment workers, and over two years, 23,000 individual entrepreneurs registered on this platform, as well as 7,000 on Ozon. In 2023, the owner of Wildberries visited Kyrgyzstan, where she met with Akylbek Japarov and requested a plot of land for a logistics center. After that, she went to Tashkent, where a distribution center with an area of 100,000 square meters is planned to open in 2026. While we were discussing this, our regional neighbors have already built the necessary facilities,” Kerimbek uulu explained.

The entrepreneur also noted that neither garment workers nor government agencies were prepared for the situation that arose in Russia last autumn. He expressed the opinion that closer cooperation between business and government is needed to address the emerging problems.

“In the textile industry, exports rank third after Kumtor and agriculture. Uzbekistan has a separate Ministry of Light and Textile Industry. We also need a specialized department in the Ministry of Economy that will deal with issues in the garment sector and gather all necessary information,” the association director stated.

In the autumn of 2025, it was reported that due to changes in requirements from Russia, the garment industry of Kyrgyzstan faced numerous difficulties. Problems with the export of products were also discussed in the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
