In the Osh region, inspections have begun to identify citizens who are illegally storing weapons.

The press service of the Internal Affairs Department of the Osh region provided this information.

It is specified that the increase in inspections is a result of a series of incidents that occurred in the republic. In particular, a nationwide check of weapon owners was initiated following an incident involving a gun threat in Bishkek and a tragedy where a police officer killed his wife.

The inspections started on January 8 and will last until January 31.

At this stage, the confiscation of illegally stored weapons is being carried out. This category includes weapons without documentation, as well as those whose operational lifespan has expired. Additionally, owners who are suspected of committing crimes or acts of violence are being checked, as well as cases where weapons are used by third parties while the owner is absent. Explanatory work is being conducted with such citizens, after which the weapons are confiscated. Some owners voluntarily surrender their weapons.

“These measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and their families. If you have unregistered weapons or ammunition, we urge you to report it to the police immediately. Caution is never unnecessary,” the department noted.

Furthermore, the police emphasized that citizens who voluntarily surrender illegally stored weapons will not face criminal liability.
