A meeting took place in Istanbul between Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), and Namazu Hiroyuki, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The discussion at the meeting covered a wide range of issues related to the activities of the OTS, including ongoing initiatives and projects, as well as interaction with international and regional structures.

The parties also paid attention to the possibilities of expanding cooperation between the OTS and Japan, based on common interests. Participants exchanged views on bilateral relations between Japan and the member and observer countries of the OTS, as well as considered formats for interaction with third countries within the organization.

Additionally, current issues concerning the situation in the region and beyond were discussed.

It should be noted that in recent months, foreign and regional media have reported an increasing interest from Japan in expanding cooperation with the OTS, including the possibility of participation in various formats.

However, no official statements have been made by Tokyo regarding intentions to become a member of the OTS, and no requests to the organization have been recorded. Currently, the discussion is focused on deepening cooperation and dialogue, rather than formal membership.
