In an interview with the "Kabar" agency, President Sadyr Japarov responded to criticism regarding freedom of speech and human rights in the country.

It is worth noting that January 28 marked five years since he took office as president. Many international organizations and media outlets report a deterioration in the situation regarding freedom of speech, as well as the detention of journalists and activists.

However, the president disagrees and claims that the level of freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan has remained the same.

"Citizens can freely express their opinions on social media and in the press, discussing social and political issues, as well as making videos and publishing them. No one prevents them from doing this. People actively share their thoughts on various topics," he noted.

Regarding arrests, the president stated that only those who threaten constitutional order are detained.

"Some may think that law enforcement agencies violate human rights by arresting citizens. But freedom of speech and democracy require responsibility. Arrests occur not for criticism, but for actions that undermine order, such as organizing riots or calls to violate the Constitution. Detention is a serious measure, and the authorities act within the law, gathering evidence," Japarov added.

Additionally, the president commented on restrictions on holding rallies in Bishkek. The court has prohibited peaceful gatherings in Ala-Too Square and near government buildings, allowing protests only in Gorky Park.

"If someone wants to organize a protest, they should gather in Gorky Park and invite the media. The main thing is not to interfere with the work of government agencies. This practice is common in many countries," he concluded.
