Today, at a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agrarian policy, ecology, and subsoil use, Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, announced plans to open an industrial park on the territory of the Mailuu-Suu Electric Lamp Plant.

These statements were made in response to a question from Deputy Tabyldy Muratbekov regarding the payment of salary debts and the potential consequences of layoffs for the unemployment rate in the region.

According to Torobaev, the state has already settled three months of salary arrears for all 550 employees of the plant.

“We offered workers the option of voluntary resignation with a two-month salary payout, while those who are willing to wait will be able to keep their jobs, as we plan to provide them with work in the near future. The state also commits to settling debts for utility services, which amount to 248 million soms, as well as for loans. The issues concerning the plant are under the control of the president,” the minister explained.

Torobaev also reported that there is currently a glass container production facility operating at the plant, employing about 200 people. To support it, 187 million soms have been allocated, which will allow for work to continue for four months.

There is one line for the production of LED lamps, and plans are in place to increase their number to five, which will require 200 million soms. Additionally, negotiations are underway with an investor to organize the production of thermal insulation mineral wool with a raw material base of 700,000 tons,” he noted.

The minister emphasized that, according to the president's decree, the territory of the plant will be transformed into an industrial park with special preferential conditions for businesses.

“Entrepreneurs are already showing interest in this project. For example, investors plan to build a pharmaceutical plant and are requesting 20,000 hectares with tax exemptions. They assure that they will be able to create up to 500 jobs by the end of the year. If all these initiatives are implemented, no employees of the Mailuu-Suu plant will be left without work,” added Bakyt Torobaev.
