Kultaeva noted that Japikeev, in an interview viewed by 200,000 people, made ambiguous statements about Aitmatov.
“Chinghiz Aitmatov is a cultural symbol of Kyrgyzstan and is known worldwide. Many films have been made based on his works. Esteemed representatives of the Ministry of Culture, you are called to protect our cultural heritage. Syimyk Japikeev allows himself to make unworthy statements about our great figure, while you remain inactive. His words are spreading on social media, and this could negatively affect the image of our country. I insist that measures be taken and a legal assessment of his statements be provided. It is necessary to stop attempts to discredit our national values,” she emphasized.
In response, Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev stated that Chinghiz Aitmatov does not need protection from a person who requires psychological help and hospitalization. Nevertheless, he reported that the ministry will prepare an official assessment of the situation.
