After recent comments by Syimyk Zhapikeev, the former head of the Financial Police, the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan issued an official statement. This came in light of an interview posted by Ernist Kyazov on his YouTube channel, in which Zhapikeev expressed his opinion about the works of Chingiz Aitmatov.
According to information received from VB.KG, the Union's address contains a condemnation of the expressed opinions, which were characterized as inappropriate and unfounded. The organization considers them an attempt to diminish the significance of Kyrgyz literature and national values. In light of the public outcry, the Union emphasizes the need for a legal assessment of Zhapikeev's words in accordance with current legislation.
In his interview, Zhapikeev criticized Aitmatov's work, claiming that the books of this world-renowned author lack spiritual depth and are unable to provide the necessary guidance to readers. He also expressed the opinion that the writer's works do not contribute to inner development and compared them to the works of Rumi, Al-Biruni, and Jami, as well as to Bruce Lee's films, which he believes are more inspiring. Zhapikeev added that although he has not read the novel "The Plague," he believes it lacks a deep plot and spiritual foundation.
