The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan has made an official statement in which deepfakes have been deemed unacceptable from the perspective of Sharia. This fatwa emphasizes that the use of such technologies is prohibited.

The document notes that Islam does not oppose scientific and technological progress if it is aimed at the good of society and serves justice. However, according to the clergy, deepfake technologies are often used to cause harm.

DUMK explains that Sharia condemns the spread of false information and deceiving people, including cases where technologies allow attributing words and actions to others that they did not say or do.

It is also emphasized that deepfakes can seriously damage reputations, provoke conflicts, instill fear, and even threaten lives. Even humorous deepfakes are considered unacceptable.

Muslims are advised to avoid such actions.
