Dangerous proximity in the sky over Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan Airways commented on the incident

A Boeing 737 and an Airbus A320 came dangerously close

On January 10, a dangerous proximity incident occurred in the air traffic control zone of Shymkent involving two passenger aircraft: a Boeing 737 of the airline "Pobeda" and an Airbus A320 belonging to Uzbekistan Airways.

These aircraft were at adjacent flight levels — FL370 and FL360, and the distance between them became extremely small. The collision avoidance system TCAS was activated on both planes.

The coordinated and prompt actions of the crews helped to avoid a potential disaster.

The incident was classified as serious and is subject to further investigation. A special commission has been established to study it.

Shortly after the incident, Uzbekistan Airways commented on the situation regarding the "proximity" of the aircraft in the airspace of Kazakhstan.

"We at Uzbekistan Airways are aware of media reports regarding a possible aviation incident in the airspace of Kazakhstan. In accordance with international norms and ICAO requirements, the investigation of incidents that occur in the airspace of another state is conducted by the authorized body of that state. In this case, the investigation is being carried out by the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan," the airline stated.

"We confirm that all Uzbekistan Airways flights are operated in strict accordance with established safety standards, and the crews act according to approved procedures," they added, recommending that official conclusions and comments on the incident be directed to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
