Life in the Regions: Hereditary Hunter T. Kambarbekov Reveals Which Wolf Organs Are Used by Humans and for What Purposes
He learned shooting and hunting from his father, Kambarbek Attokurov, who was once one of the best hunters in the At-Bashinsky district.
Tilek is married and raises two sons.
During periods when predators are rampant, he specifically prepares and organizes hunts for them. In 2022, he shot 11 wolves. Prior to that, Kambarbekov had shot around 40 wolves. He gives away certain predator organs, which are considered medicinal by the people, to those who ask, while he simply buries the wolf meat. The hunter believes it is wrong for people to consume wolf meat.
“I studied from 1st to 5th grade at the Chypai Asekova school in the village of Bash-Kayindy, and from 6th to 11th grade at the Turkish lyceum named after M. Subakozhoev in the city of Naryn. After that, I received an education at the Academy of Physical Culture and Sports,” he said.
Tilek noted that the largest wolf he shot was bigger than an adult, large person.
“I don’t just shoot predators. Sometimes I also catch them in traps. My father used to catch predators alive and even kept them near the house. I don’t do this because it requires special conditions. A few years ago, I bought a Sako hunting rifle for $6,000 from Finland. I got it relatively cheap. Generally, such rifles cost even more. I hunt with this weapon,” he said.
Kambarbekov noted that wolf teeth are used as souvenirs and for treating lupus, while the skin is used for making outerwear and more, the liver for unconventional treatment of children in cases of fright, bile for treating various diseases, and meat for brucellosis and tuberculosis.
“I am against people consuming wolf meat because they are wild animals and have their own diseases. People can get infected,” he added.
