Kairykul Akmatova, a 60-year-old resident of the Ton district in the Issyk-Kul region, is actively engaged in handicrafts.

She received her education at the Tokmok technical school, where she studied library science.

“I have been doing handicrafts for over 20 years. I make shyrdaks and kiyiz, as well as cut patterns for seat cushions and slippers from felt. In this work, every detail is important,” she says.

In addition, Kairykul and her family assemble yurts, which are a symbol of Kyrgyz culture. She passes her skills on to her children and grandchildren and accepts orders for making yurts, the cost of which depends on the size, design, production time, and finishing,” adds Akmatova.

She also owns a small farm for raising chickens.

In her free time, Kairykul prefers to spend time with her grandchildren.

“My dream is to promote the yurt and other elements of Kyrgyz culture beyond our country,” she shares.
