Islam Nurbekov, a young boxer from the village of Tyup in the Tyup district of the Issyk-Kul region, shares his ambitions.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, he mentioned that his interest in sports began in the 2nd grade, with his father's support being the main motivation.

According to him, until the 7th grade, he studied at the A. Karymshakov Secondary School, and now he continues his education at a sports school in Bishkek.

“I was born in 2010, and this May I will turn 16. I am the oldest of four children in the family. When I moved to the 2nd grade at A. Karymshakov School, I started my first boxing training. At that time, we practiced in an old gym during our free time from studies. My very first coach was Kuban Egebaev, and he still accompanies me to tournaments. When I moved to the 6th grade, I became even more motivated and started participating in regional, national, and international competitions. The successes continued, and in the 8th grade, I transferred to the sports school in Bishkek — I am currently studying successfully and continue to compete in tournaments,” he said.

I. Nurbekov notes that his father's support had a significant impact on him, and in the future, he aims to become a world champion.

“My father passed away in a car accident three years ago. When he was alive, he used to say: ‘You will become a strong boxer; you must become a world champion and raise the flag of Kyrgyzstan.’ After such words from my parents, I set a goal and managed to compete in tournaments in Karakol, Jalal-Abad, Osh, and also traveled to tournaments in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in a short time. Even when my parents had only a little money left at home, they didn’t hesitate to spend it for their son's future — they paid for my travel and accommodation.

My first coach is always by my side: he knows my character and dreams well, gives me moral support at the right moment, and helps me. When I transitioned to the 8th grade and made the decision to transfer to the sports school, my mom was not against it — on the contrary, she still supports me,” he said.

In his studies, Islam enjoys geometry and algebra.

“In my free time, I try to learn Russian and English. But in everyday life, we have almost no days off or rest — we constantly train and run in the mountains, maintaining a regimen. Of course, at the sports school, you train more and do more exercises.

Sometimes Munarbek aga, who participated in the world championship, comes to us and shares his experience. Perhaps that’s why, at a recent national tournament in the 48 kg weight category, I won against my opponents in three rounds and earned a spot at the Asian Championship, which will take place in May. That day, I remembered my father's words and drew strength from them.

My goal is to become a world champion, participate in the Olympic Games, and bring glory to my country,” he concluded.
