The return of the Mongolia Caucus in the 119th Congress of the USA is marked by the appointment of co-chairs: Democrat Dina Titus from Nevada and Republican John Moolenaar from Michigan.
The main goal of the Mongolia Caucus will be to develop and strengthen ties between the U.S. Congress and the Parliament of Mongolia, as well as to raise support in Congress for deepening bilateral relations in all areas.
This update strengthens the interaction between the 119th U.S. Congress and the Mongolian Caucus in Parliament, creating opportunities for further development of bilateral relations and coordination.
The U.S. Congress consistently expresses support for democratic processes and development in Mongolia, as well as for strengthening the Mongolian-American partnership, which is reflected in the adoption of a number of resolutions. In December 2020 and on April 15, 2021, both the House of Representatives and the Senate approved the resolution "Affirming the Strategic Partnership between the United States and Mongolia."
Aliki (Alice) Konstantina "Dina" Titus is an American Democratic politician who represented Nevada's 7th congressional district in the Senate from 1988 to 2008, as well as the 3rd (2009-2011) and 1st (since 2013) congressional districts in the House of Representatives. From 1993 to 2008, she served as the minority leader in the Senate. Before coming to Congress, she taught political science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1977 to 2011, achieving the status of emeritus professor.
Her mother comes from a Greek family with roots in Thessaly (Greece). In 1911, Dina's grandfather, Arthur Konstantinos Katonis, emigrated to Ellis Island (USA). In Tifton, he opened the "Plaza" restaurant. Since there was no church or Greek school in the county, Konstantinos taught his granddaughter Greek and introduced her to traditional cuisine. Dina first visited Greece in 1980, where she met her relatives in Athens and Trikala.
Titus is the initiator of numerous bills, including one that mandates health insurance companies to cover the costs of the Gardasil HPV vaccine. This bill was passed by both the Senate and the Assembly and signed by Governor Jim Gibbons.
John Robert Moolenaar is an American politician who has represented Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2015, changing his district from the 4th to the 2nd in 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives and Senate from 2003 to 2008 and from 2011 to 2014, respectively.
