Tokayev also dismissed rumors that the upcoming parliamentary reform is supposedly intended to make the position of the speaker of parliament key in the governance system, and that he himself is preparing this position for himself.
The president emphasized: “These are just fantasies. Such statements contradict my political principles. I have repeatedly stressed that Kazakhstan is a presidential republic. Eight years ago, before I came to Akorda, I presented the concept of ‘Strong president - influential parliament - accountable government.’ Changing the entire system for personal interests would be extremely irresponsible and wrong. All major reforms are discussed in nationwide referendums. There are no hidden intentions. My position is clear: political reforms will continue, and part of the long-term plans will be announced soon,” he added.
