The assembly of the thermonuclear installation BEST is completing its final stage
In the Chinese city of Hefei, the thermonuclear installation BEST, also known as the "Artificial Sun," has reached the final stage of its assembly. According to CCTV News, the current level of localization of the equipment is 93.4%.
“It is important to note that the localization level for this installation is 93.4%, with more than 660 unique components that have no analogs in the world. As part of the 15th Five-Year Plan, which will run from 2026 to 2030, there are plans to increase the share of domestic production to 100%,” the report added.
After the construction is completed, the installation is expected to demonstrate its ability to operate stably and for extended periods in long-pulse mode, and then transition to energy generation through thermonuclear fusion. Developers anticipate that by 2030, the device may be able to "light a lamp" for the first time in history using the energy of controlled thermonuclear fusion. The project is based on magnetic confinement technology using superconducting magnets and specialized fuel spheres capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1620 °C.
It was previously reported that on October 1, the base element of the cryostat was successfully installed.
