According to the information from Deputy Minister of Health Ryspek Sydygaliev, the Nipah virus, which has been reported in India, does not pose a threat to Kyrgyzstan. Nevertheless, measures to strengthen border control have been implemented in the country. This statement was made during a parliamentary session.

During the discussion, the parliamentarians reviewed a draft law on the ratification of an Agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development regarding the "Phase 1" project under the "One Health" Program aimed at preventing pandemics and improving food systems in Central Asia.

Deputy Gulnara Akimbaeva from constituency No. 24 pointed out that regulations concerning medical waste management had already been adopted in 2019 and 2025. She inquired why changes are being initiated again if the previous measures did not yield the expected results.

Sydygaliev noted that for the effective functioning of the system, training of specialists is necessary, and that special centers for working with medical waste have been established in the country.

Akimbaeva added that the rules developed in 2025 require revision and raised a question about the mechanisms for monitoring the targeted use of grant funds.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that medicine is constantly evolving, new diseases are emerging, as well as new medications, and treatment protocols are being updated.

“We must be prepared for changes and potential pandemics. At this moment, the Nipah virus does not pose a threat, but work at sanitary control points has been intensified,” he stressed.

Akimbaeva called for stricter control.

Deputy Aisarakan Abdibaeva from constituency No. 15 also asked about the measures being taken by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus. In response, Sydygaliev stated that checks for symptoms of illness are being conducted at airports and control points using thermal imaging cameras, and training for medical personnel is also underway.
