Representatives of the medical community of Kyrgyzstan, including doctors and association members, have appealed to President Sadyr Japarov to release nephrologist N.B. under house arrest. At a press conference held by AKIpress on February 19, they presented their version of the events related to the treatment of a patient.

Doctor N.B. was detained on February 18 and placed in a temporary detention facility after citizen Z.S. reported a possible medical error that occurred at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health.

Akpai Sarybaev, president of the Kyrgyz Medical Association, noted that doctor N.B. has a family and that the investigation can be conducted without her being in custody. “The situation is complex and ambiguous. In such cases, there cannot be a unilateral decision regarding treatment. Usually, a group of qualified specialists is gathered to make a joint decision. As we understood, two inspections found no fault with the doctors, but the conclusion changed in the third one. We ask the president to consider the case objectively and temporarily release the doctor under house arrest,” he added.

Ayna Jetibaeva, chief physician of the NCMMH, spoke about the case and the patient. According to her, the girl, born in 2011, was hospitalized on October 11, 2024, by a group of family doctors with a diagnosis of glomerulonephritis and severe edema. From the first day, all necessary diagnostic and treatment procedures were prescribed.

On the third day, October 14, 2024, the diagnosis was confirmed: acute glomerulonephritis with nephrotic syndrome. Necessary examinations and treatments were conducted.

On October 21, 2024, an expanded consultation took place, which included a vascular surgeon, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the girl’s parents, and the patient herself. The consultation decided to continue conservative treatment.

On November 23, amputation of the right leg at the thigh level was proposed, but the parents refused this procedure.

At the initiative of the relatives, the girl was transferred to Turkey on November 25, 2024, where a decision was made to amputate part of the lower limb.

The case was first examined based on a statement from the patient's mother S.Z.R. to the State National Security Committee from July to August 2025, and then again at the Main Internal Affairs Directorate, where it was studied by a forensic examination from the Ministry of Health in September-October 2025. Both commissions made decisions regarding this case.

In January 2026, a new comprehensive forensic medical examination was organized at the initiative of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate at the request of mother S.Z.R.

Beremet Baryktabasova, a representative of the medical union of Kyrgyzstan, expressed condolences for the suffering caused to the girl. “There was no need for such harsh measures — to detain the doctor from work in handcuffs and place her in a detention center,” she said, adding that a request will be made to the Constitutional Court to protect the rights of the doctor.
