As of today, the medical system in the country operates 2,167 maternity beds, 741 gynecological beds, and 521 beds for the treatment of pregnancy complications. This information was presented at a meeting held by the Minister of Health, Damirbek Osmonov, where the results of the perinatal service's work for 2025 and plans for development until 2030 were discussed.
The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic reports that perinatal care is organized according to a three-level model, ensuring continuity and consistency in the provision of medical services. High-quality assistance is provided by institutions such as the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the Kyrgyz Scientific Center for Human Reproduction, and the maternity hospital of the Osh Interregional Hospital.
The level of coverage for prenatal care for pregnant women remains high at 91.7%. There is also active infrastructure development: new perinatal centers are being built in the Talas and Osh regions, which will improve access to specialized care for women in these areas.
Among the strategic directions for the development of the perinatal service until 2030 are:
- optimization of obstetric and gynecological care with an emphasis on preventive measures;
- improvement of the monitoring system for pregnant women and patient routing;
- updating standards for antenatal care with a focus on the quality of medical services;
- implementation of modern prenatal screening methods;
- establishment of a genetic laboratory;
- development of family planning and preconception preparation programs for women;
- development of remote consultation services for regional medical institutions;
- strengthening the material and technical base of obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology services.
The main goals remain the improvement of the quality of medical care for mothers and newborns, as well as the reduction of mortality rates.
