From January 1 to 19, 295 injured individuals sought help at the emergency room of the Sports Rehabilitation Center in Bishkek, with injuries caused by snowfall and icy conditions, reports the Ministry of Health.

Of the total number of cases, 227 people sustained fractures, while 68 experienced bruises and sprains. All patients with fractures received necessary assistance, including the application of casts.

Medical professionals emphasize that the main cause of injuries is falls on slippery sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian crossings. Citizens are advised to be especially cautious when moving in icy conditions.

When navigating slippery surfaces, it is important to avoid sudden movements and rushing. One should pay attention to where they place their feet and stop if necessary to assess the situation. It is recommended to keep knees slightly bent and lean the body forward. It is dangerous to keep hands in pockets, as this reduces stability. Elderly individuals are advised to use canes with rubber tips.

Try to stay away from the roadway and building walls, where icicles may form. Cross the street only at pedestrian crossings. When descending stairs, place your foot along the step to minimize the consequences of a fall.

Winter footwear should be comfortable and have soles with good traction. To improve grip, adhesive tape can be used on the sole or it can be treated with sandpaper.

If a fall is unavoidable, try to curl up by squatting and pressing your elbows to your sides, tucking your head in and tensing your muscles. Avoid falling on your back or with your arms extended forward. If possible, rolling during a fall can help reduce the impact force and the risk of serious injuries.

In case of injury, do not attempt self-treatment — it is necessary to seek medical assistance.
