Bishkek's grocery basket as of February 21. What has increased in price the most
This week in Bishkek, there has been a rise in prices for cucumbers, buckwheat, potatoes, cabbage, pears, sugar, eggs, and vegetable oil. At the same time, some products, such as bread, rice, onions, and carrots, have become cheaper.

As a result, the cost of the minimum grocery basket has increased by 549 soms, reaching a total of 7,888 soms.

We conduct weekly monitoring of prices for the same set of products in one supermarket. Below are the details of which specific items are included in our basket and the reasons for their selection.

It should be noted that prices in supermarkets can vary, and promotional items are often available at lower prices.

Data analysis shows that since the beginning of our study in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 4,618 soms. Since the beginning of this year, it has risen by 1,165 soms, and compared to the same period in 2025, it has increased by 1,874 soms.

Bread remains the most affordable product in our basket. The cost of the basket is significantly influenced by fresh vegetables and fruits, which can cause price fluctuations.

In 2025, the price of the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest cost was recorded on October 18 — 5,791 soms, while the highest was on December 6, amounting to 6,927 soms.

In 2009, the government of Kyrgyzstan established nutritional norms for citizens, according to which each person is required to consume 9 types of products monthly.

These norms include: 9 kg of bread products, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, as well as 200 grams of tea.

Taking into account the minimum standards set by the state, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of Bishkek's supermarkets. In recent years, many city residents prefer to shop in large stores.

It should be noted that the calculations for food consumption are approximate and based on state norms. People's diets vary: some do not eat meat, while others prefer to avoid sugar. Therefore, our data should not be perceived as absolute truth. It is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.

We consider bread products to include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family has average preferences: they choose apples and bananas for fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes for vegetables. No excess — just the essentials.
