Goals of the Census
The agricultural census, like other similar activities, aims to collect accurate data that will aid in the development of long-term policies in the agricultural sector.As part of the census, the current state of the agricultural sector will be analyzed, and food security in the country will be ensured. Previously, population and housing censuses were conducted in Kyrgyzstan, and now it is time for the agricultural census.
Main indicators to be collected:
- structure and number of agricultural enterprises and farms of various forms of ownership;
- volumes and types of agricultural production;
- availability of resources: land, labor, and material;
- livestock and poultry counts;
- features of farm management and level of mechanization.
Census Process
Information collection will be carried out through the National Statistical Committee and will take place in an electronic format.From March 20 to April 10, specially trained staff will visit all participants in agricultural activities. This will include both state and collective farms, as well as individual farms and household plots, as well as collective gardens and orchards.
Data will be collected using mobile applications, and information will be transmitted to the central server of the National Statistical Committee via secure channels, ensuring confidentiality and rapid data processing.
Composition of Census Participants
A total of 6,791 temporary workers will be involved in the census, including:- registrars - 1,179;
- enumerators - 4,494;
- supervisors - 898;
- coordinators - 220.
The census will be overseen by a commission headed by the Minister of Agriculture, with the head of the National Statistical Committee serving as his deputy. The commission will also include representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Energy.
History of the Agricultural Census
The agricultural census is supposed to be conducted every ten years. In reality, the last full census was conducted over 20 years ago — in 2002 for land and crops, and in 2003 for livestock.This highlights how much conditions have changed during this period.
Census Questions
The questions will be divided into several blocks, including the type of farm (personal, farming, cooperative, etc.), number of workers (family members and hired workers), main type of activity (crop production, livestock, aquaculture, etc.), land area (arable land, pastures, orchards), types of irrigation, presence of greenhouses, gardens, and vineyards, as well as livestock counts.Legal Aspects of Farmers' Participation
According to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On the Agricultural Census," all agricultural entities are required to provide statistical data to enumerators. However, there are no penalties for refusing to participate.Enumerators will actively encourage farmers to participate, as citizens generally have a positive attitude towards such activities.
