In recent years, Kyrgyzstan has been facing an increase in the volumes of illegal, counterfeit, and low-quality planting material, which leads to serious consequences for agriculture, including reduced yields and the spread of diseases. In this regard, agricultural security is becoming critically important for ensuring food security at the national level. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In response to the situation, the Ministry is developing a new regulatory legal act that will require farmers, agricultural enterprises, and cooperatives to use only certified seed and planting material when growing any agricultural crops.
The Ministry strongly recommends that agricultural producers:
• purchase seeds and seedlings exclusively from certified suppliers;
• request documents from sellers that confirm the quality and origin of the planting material;
• create an archive of certificates for each batch of seeds.
Furthermore, the ministry warns that without confirmation of quality and certificates of origin for seeds, farmers will not be able to benefit from state subsidies and support measures.
Currently, the government provides:
preferential loans and land plots; comprehensive assistance to cooperatives.
