In Kyrgyzstan, active implementation of import substitution strategies in the vegetable oil sector continues, contributing to the strengthening of food security and increasing the share of local products in the market.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of 2024, the level of vegetable oil supply from domestic production increased from 20.2% in 2022 to 50%. This growth was achieved through the expansion of oilseed processing and stabilization of the market situation.

In 2026, five new processing plants were opened in the country: one in the Issyk-Kul region, two in Naryn, and one each in the Talas and Chui regions. According to the National Statistical Committee, there are 9 large and 136 small enterprises registered in the republic engaged in oilseed processing.

From January to November 2025, local producers produced approximately 18.5 thousand tons of vegetable oil. The level of supply from domestic production reached 56.5%, which was made possible by the increase in processing capacities and a reduction in dependence on imports.

At the same time, the ministry is actively working on the introduction of high-yielding varieties of oilseeds. Currently, tests of new varieties imported from countries such as the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey are being conducted. In recent years, a promising safflower variety "Petrovich" has been included in the state register of varieties, which has demonstrated high and stable yield indicators.

Thus, the development of processing and the introduction of new varieties create favorable conditions for further growth in vegetable oil production in the country.
