In the Russian Federation, a significantly updated nationwide classifier of positions and professions has come into effect. The previously existing list, created in 1994, became outdated and no longer reflected the modern labor market. Now, many specialists who have long been in uncertainty have received official codes as well as social guarantees.
The reform has affected almost all relevant sectors. The most noticeable changes have occurred in the digital segment: now, professions such as SMM managers, copywriters, web developers, and neural network specialists are recognized in the legal framework. Virtual reality architects and usability experts have also received official recognition. This means that their work is now taken into account when calculating work experience and pension contributions, which was previously complicated due to the lack of corresponding terminology in employment records.
Significant changes have also occurred in the beauty and service sector. Now, in the state register, in-demand professions such as fitness trainers, permanent makeup artists, cosmetic aestheticians, and groomers (animal care specialists) are officially recognized. Improvements have also been made in the medical sector: cosmetologists, neuropsychologists, and sexologists have received official codes, which will allow for the establishment of clearer standards for their work.
Overall, the new classifier records approximately 5,600 working specialties and more than 4,000 positions. This update of the classifier is not just a change of formalities but a complete alignment of the state system with the realities of the 21st century. Transitioning to modern standards will facilitate the collection of statistics, help in the development of relevant job descriptions, and allow for the establishment of a transparent personnel policy that meets the demands of modern business.
