- It is important to emphasize the quality of the road materials used and the implementation of stone-mastic asphalt and concrete in the construction of highways, - highlighted former Minister of Transport Jamshitbek Kalilov in an interview with the radio station.

He noted that this technology was first implemented in Kyrgyzstan by specialists from the PII "Kyrgyzdortransproekt." The first section where stone-mastic asphalt was used was laid in 2016. After 10 years, even in harsh mountain conditions, this section did not require medium repairs, he added.

Kalilov pointed out that in similar situations, the need for medium repairs typically arises after 10 years; however, in this case, the road surface continues to maintain its operational characteristics. This is due to the fact that the service life of stone-mastic asphalt and concrete is 2.5 times longer than that of regular asphalt.

At the same time, the former minister expressed criticism regarding the quality of some urban roads, indicating that only the top layer is applied, which creates the illusion of repair without the use of necessary materials.

Moreover, he raised the issue of road safety, emphasizing the need to create a separate service within the Ministry of Transport that deals with road safety audits. This structure should function at the design stage and during the operation of roads to minimize the risk of traffic accidents.

As an example, he cited the North-South highway, where landslides occur and road surface destruction is observed. In his opinion, if an audit had been conducted during the construction phase, protective galleries could have been planned to avoid emergency situations.
