Residents of the city of Batken are facing a shortage of land plots for individual housing construction. Those who have the means are buying plots and continuing to build. Those who cannot afford it wait for years for their turn and are often forced to live two or three families on one plot.

According to residents, the issuance of land for housing in the city has not been carried out for about 15 years. “In our family, there are four sons, so each of us applied for a plot and contacted the Batken city administration. The last time I went regarding this issue was in 2014-2015. But, unfortunately, none of the brothers were allocated land. As a result, we are forced to live as four families in one house. Some, based on their circumstances, rent an apartment. I also have children, and now I have nowhere to build a house to separate myself. It would be good if this problem could be solved. We don’t even know where to turn,” says Batken resident Abdumitalib Koshmatov.

The press service of the Batken city administration reported that within the city limits, land plots for housing construction have not been provided to local residents since 2012.

It is also noted that through the state mortgage lending program, more than 12 hectares of land have been allocated in the city of Batken, transformed through a transformation procedure. This is aimed at more rational land use and creating conditions to provide housing for the population.

At the same time, as clarified by the city administration, there are no available land plots in the city of Batken that could be converted for individual housing construction and provided to citizens on the waiting list.

Currently, there are over 5,000 people in the electronic queue for receiving a land plot in the city of Batken.
