“Curricula are periodically updated”
At a briefing held by the Ministry of Education, the issue of the importance of implementing 12-year education was raised again. Officials noted that criticism from parents is premature, as the new standards and curricula are just beginning to be implemented.
Olga Bryzgalova, a representative of the Ministry, stated: “It is not entirely accurate to claim that the updated standards in mathematics and natural sciences for grades 1, 2, 5, and 7 are more difficult than the previous ones; they are simply organized according to a different principle.”
According to her, the change in the approach to teaching has created certain difficulties for educators, who had to master new teaching methods during the summer break.
Abakir Mamytov, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and Chief Researcher at the Laboratory of Technology, Arts, and Health Culture of the Kyrgyz Academy of Education, noted that the program has been revised and simplified with an emphasis on practical application.
He emphasized that the transition to 12-year education has become a necessity, as modern research shows that children are developing faster than 20-30 years ago, both physically and psychologically and intellectually. Starting the educational process at the age of six addresses two tasks: early education and relieving the preschool system. Although many subjects were studied in Kyrgyz schools, the effectiveness of this process left much to be desired. The main goal has become reducing the total educational load, which, as practice has shown, reached 1000 hours or more, while international standards set it at 800-850 hours. The updated content pays special attention to mathematics, natural sciences, English language, and digital technologies,” he added.
