At the meeting of the Rospotrebnadzor board, issues related to improving epidemiological surveillance of parasitic diseases were discussed. According to the official website of the agency, parasitic diseases remain one of the most important public health problems globally due to their widespread prevalence and significant socio-economic impact.

The agency emphasized that the risks associated with the importation of infections by foreigners, especially labor migrants, are becoming increasingly relevant for the Russian Federation.
In Russia, a comprehensive approach is applied to combat parasitic diseases. Rospotrebnadzor has established reference centers based on research institutions that specialize in these diseases. These centers conduct ongoing monitoring and analysis of the epidemiological situation both in the country and abroad.

Based on the collected data, scientifically justified forecasts are formed, and effective preventive measures are developed.

“The reference centers are engaged in the identification of parasites, obtaining samples from various regions of Russia. In-depth studies are conducted, the results of which, including genomic sequences, are entered into the national database VGARus, contributing to the creation of a unified information space for scientific research,” the statement notes.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, 10 innovative test systems for detecting pathogens such as malaria, schistosomiasis, ascariasis, leishmaniasis, trichocephalosis, and toxoplasmosis have been successfully developed and implemented in practice. New test systems for PCR diagnostics of diseases such as diphyllobothriasis, dirofilariasis, and echinococcosis are also actively being developed.
