In Batken, more than 1.5 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated in artificial glaciers
In the Batken region, a project is being implemented to create artificial glaciers aimed at improving water supply for agriculture. This became known from a statement by the office of the authorized representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan in the region.

During a meeting with a delegation of international organizations and diplomats, which included the head of the international cooperation, investment, and tourism sector of the representative office, Azizbek Adylbekov, the Consul General of Russia in Osh, Roman Svistin, as well as representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Oleg Guchgeldiev and OSCE Dmitry Prudskikh, current issues were discussed.

During the discussions, emphasis was placed on the need to implement climate-resilient practices, effective water resource management, and the renewal of irrigation infrastructure. Ways to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the artificial glacier project and new joint initiatives were also considered.

After the negotiations, the delegation headed to the artificial glacier located in the Aina-Tash gorge in the village of Kok-Tash in the Leilek district.

The created artificial glaciers are an innovative way to accumulate water in winter, which is then used for irrigating fields in the spring and summer periods. This technology is particularly relevant for areas suffering from a lack of water resources.

Seven artificial glaciers have already been built in the region: in the villages of Gaz, Sogment, Bulak-Bashy, and Kainy in the Batken district, as well as in Aibiyke, Kok-Tash, and Sumbula in the Leilek district.

As a result of the winter season, more than 1.5 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated in these glaciers.

This project is being implemented with the support of international partners and is aimed at sustainable development of the region, as well as adaptation to climate change.
