Askar Davletbakov: The Lack of Predators Leads to Diseases in Animals

Candidate of Biological Sciences and Head of the Laboratory of Vertebrate Zoology at the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Askar Davletbakov, emphasized that predators play a key role in the ecosystem, acting as natural sanitarians. They help control the population of sick animals, which, in turn, prevents the spread of various diseases.

These remarks were made during scientific, sanitary, and biotechnical activities aimed at the conservation of the chukar and pheasant, which took place in the Kyzyl-Suu gorge, in the Taarilgan-Koktu area, located near the village of On Bir-Zhilga in the Chui region.

Davletbakov noted that the research was initiated in response to reports from the public about possible infections of chukars and pheasants by parasites. "Previously, we only had assumptions, so we decided to conduct a practical check of the situation. For this, we obtained special scientific permission to capture a certain number of birds, which will be sent to the laboratory for dissection and analysis for the presence of internal and external parasites," he explained.

According to him, the results of laboratory studies will allow scientists to identify the types of parasites that may be present in the birds, as well as develop recommendations for preventing the spread of diseases.

The expert added that such studies are conducted regularly, as the law requires hunters to monitor the health status of wildlife. If necessary, scientists are also involved in this work, assisting in the implementation of biotechnical and veterinary-biotechnical measures.
