In an interview with the state information agency "Kabar," Sadyr Japarov discussed measures to address the shortage of educational institutions. This issue was raised at a recent kurultai.

The president also explained aspects of the 12-year educational system and population growth.

- Delegates repeatedly mentioned the lack of schools, pointing out that some classes have 40-50 students. Is this related to the transition to 12-year education? - This is not related to 12-year education. I have already explained this in previous interviews. The problem existed before the introduction of the 12-year system.

For example, last year, about 140-150 thousand children were enrolled in the first grades, while by the 2025/26 academic year, there will be 106,015 students in the first grades and 124,593 in the second grades. In 2015, the number of students was 1 million 43 thousand 356, and by 2025, it is expected to grow to 1 million 536 thousand 633, indicating an increase of 500 thousand students due to demographic growth.

At the moment, we are actively working on this issue. Since the beginning of 2025, the construction of 134 educational institutions has been completed with state budget funding.

Among them are 60 schools and 28 kindergartens, as well as major repairs of 41 schools and five kindergartens. Additionally, 16 schools and 13 kindergartens were built with various funding sources, including local budgets and sponsors. In total, 163 educational institutions have been completed in the republic (117 new and 46 renovated).

In 2022, 15 schools were built in Bishkek, and this year, the construction of another 20 in the capital, 10 in Osh, and 6 in Manas is planned. Construction will begin in February and be completed by September. These three cities are in the greatest need of new educational institutions, and the solution to the problem will occur in stages.

Currently, 216 schools and 107 kindergartens are actively under construction in the country, and we expect that by 2026, half of them will be completed and put into operation.

The transition to a 12-year educational system is a pressing requirement.

There are international standards, as well as a growing demand for education. We cannot remain indifferent to changes in the global labor market and in the field of education. Some neighbors have already completed this process, while others are in its stages.

The first graduates of the 12-year program will receive their diplomas in 2029. Without this, our children will be forced to spend an additional year preparing for admission to foreign universities, as their documents will not meet international standards.

The transition to a 12-year education system is necessary to enter the global educational market and prepare qualified specialists. For Kyrgyzstan, it is extremely important to develop human capital capable of competing on the global stage.

Education in grades 10-11 has already fulfilled its historical function, supporting a planned-command economy. Now, it is necessary to prepare specialists capable of working in a market economy, and we must not fall behind.
