The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized the recent attack by the United States and Israel on Iran as armed aggression and expressed condemnation. This information was announced in an official statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

In the statement, it is said: “Washington and Tel Aviv have once again embarked on a risky adventure that could lead to humanitarian, economic, and possibly radiological catastrophe in the region. Their intentions are clear and openly declared — to overthrow the constitutional order and eliminate the leadership of Iran, which does not submit to their forceful dictate and hegemony. All negative consequences of this man-made crisis, including potential chain reactions and escalation of violence, rest entirely on their shoulders.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry also called for an immediate return to political and diplomatic methods of resolution, emphasizing that Russia is ready to contribute to peace based on international law and mutual respect.

European Reaction

The Presidents of the European Commission and Council, Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa, expressed their concern regarding the events unfolding in Iran in a joint statement.

They noted that “ensuring nuclear security and preventing actions that could exacerbate the situation or undermine the global non-proliferation regime is critically important.” The EU leadership urged all parties to “exercise maximum restraint, protect civilian populations, and strictly adhere to international law.”

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the escalation must be stopped and proposed convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

“The ongoing escalation poses a danger to everyone. It must cease. Iran must realize that it has no choice but to actively engage in negotiations to halt its nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as its destabilizing activities in the region. This is necessary for the security of the entire Middle East. The Iranian people should also be given the opportunity to build their future. The mass killings perpetrated by the Islamic regime deny them a voice, and this voice must be returned to the people. The sooner, the better,” Macron stated.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed support for the people of Iran and announced plans to consult with allies and regional leaders to reduce tensions.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide noted: “Israel calls this attack preventive; however, this does not comply with international law. Preventive attacks are permissible only in the presence of an immediate threat.”

A representative of the UK government stated that London “is not interested in further escalation of the conflict on a broader scale.” “Our main task is to ensure the safety of British citizens in the region, and we will provide them with consular assistance around the clock,” the government statement was quoted by the BBC.

The attack by Israel and the US on Iran began on February 28 with numerous air and missile strikes on cities and military facilities. In response, Tehran attacked Israel and American bases in several Middle Eastern countries. In the first hours after the attack began, several high-ranking Iranian officers and officials were killed. Shortly thereafter, US President Donald Trump announced the start of a military operation called “Lion's Roar.”
