According to the human rights foundation "NeMolchi," the tragic events unfolded in the family home, where relatives had gathered to celebrate the girl's birthday.
The mother of the victim contacted the foundation on the night of April 6, 2025, immediately after taking her daughter for a medical examination.
“We express our gratitude to the investigators, the prosecutor's office, and the court for their work. We consider the verdict to be fair. Special thanks to the girl's mother for her courage and the right decision. From our experience, many families in similar situations refuse to pursue criminal charges. There are those who believe it is enough to simply remove the old man from society, but this is absolutely incorrect reasoning. Unfortunately, some family members also advocated for not punishing the grandfather, despite his crime. However, he was fully aware of his actions: when he was detained, he tried to escape and cover his tracks until he was caught by the police. The girl's mother had to go through many hardships, and she made the choice in favor of her daughter, which was absolutely right. As a result, she lost everything: her family, her job, her peace. The psychological state of the girl remains difficult, and the mother also needs support, but they have endured the trials with resilience, and the mother has shown her daughter that she is protected,” noted representatives of the "NeMolchi" foundation.
