Akbermet Akmatova, who lives in the Batken region, has dedicated 24 years of her life to the sewing industry. Previously, she worked as a seamstress both in Bishkek and in Russia, and now she has organized a small workshop right in her home in Batken.

In her workshop, she not only takes orders but also teaches girls, which brings her additional income.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, Akmatova shared that she is a designer and technologist in the field of garment production. “My husband and I worked abroad for a long time. I worked in sewing shops in Russia, and then continued my career in Bishkek and Osh. And now, I have been sewing for 24 years. My workshop has been operating for 5 years, and we live in Batken. Here, I sew clothes of various categories — jackets and coats for all ages, as well as school and newborn clothing.

Clients come to me regularly; I collaborate with kindergartens and schools. Initially, I had old sewing machines, but a year ago, I decided to give up the benefits for five children and signed a social contract, thanks to which I acquired three new sewing machines. This significantly expanded my capabilities. My team includes several girls, some of whom have already opened their own sewing shops. I earn no less than 20,000 soms a month from orders. At the moment, I am at home with my youngest child, but I have assistants. As the holidays approach, the number of orders increases, and sewing work is always in demand. My husband, although he does not have a permanent job, also helps me,” says Akbermet Akmatova.

Currently, Akmatova is 42 years old and is a mother of five children. For example, like her, 2,847 families in the Batken region have chosen to give up benefits for a year by signing social contracts and received 100,000 soms to start their own businesses.
