The Government of India has announced the creation of the first set of rules regarding the management of risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI). Official information about this was published in The Times of India. The aim of this guidance is to develop a code that supports a high level of innovation in the field of AI.

According to the new rules, measures are provided to minimize bias, abuse, and opaque use of AI technologies. It is important to note that the guidance does not impose bans on the use of AI, emphasizing safety, sustainability, eco-friendliness, equality, and accountability in its application. All these aspects must comply with existing legislation and regulations concerning information technology and data protection. To implement these rules and monitor their compliance, the country plans to create national institutions and expert councils that will address policy issues related to artificial intelligence.

The guidance, which will be updated depending on technological developments, is intended for use by policymakers and businesspeople in sectors such as education, agriculture, finance, and public administration. The measures taken are an alternative to the bill on AI regulation, which the Indian government does not intend to introduce in the near future, as noted by the publication.

As emphasized by The Times of India, India's approach to the use of AI is based on the belief that no country or company should have a monopoly on its development. Artificial intelligence should serve as a solution to pressing societal problems.

This issuance of rules coincided with the start of the five-day AI Impact Summit 2026, which begins on February 16 in New Delhi. This event discusses government systems, sovereign infrastructure, AI governance, and workforce transformation. The Indian government plans to present its plans for the widespread implementation of AI across various sectors of the economy.

During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open an exhibition in the capital's center, showcasing India's achievements in the use of AI at 300 venues. The exhibition will also highlight innovations in the development and implementation of AI technologies, as well as India's collaboration with various countries, including Russia, Australia, France, Japan, and Tajikistan, as well as other states in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
