In Russia, authorities are planning to introduce penalties for labor migrants who do not undergo mandatory medical examinations. This was stated by the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.

For foreigners who have been in the country for more than three months, the deadline for undergoing a medical examination will be reduced from 90 to 30 days. The results of the examinations must be submitted by medical institutions to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, and in the case of infectious diseases being detected, to the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing. These measures are aimed at the rapid deportation of migrants if violations are identified.

It is also planned to introduce administrative liability for evading medical examinations: this could be either a fine or expulsion from the country by court decision.

Documents confirming the health status of migrants, if found to be forged, will be treated as a criminal offense.

“Our goal is to strengthen control over migrants and enhance public safety,” noted Vyacheslav Volodin.
