- As noted by Asema Azamatova, a student at the Manas University, at the "Agrodialog" forum, the yield of okra in Kyrgyzstan can reach 800 kg per 10 ares, provided that the right variety is chosen and agronomic standards are followed.

She emphasized that okra has high nutritional value and enjoys stable demand in international markets, making it a promising crop for agriculture.

“This crop is characterized by low calorie content and high levels of vitamins A and C, as well as minerals such as potassium and calcium. Under optimal conditions, Kyrgyzstan can produce up to 800 kg from 10 ares, while in more developed countries this figure reaches 4 tons,” Azamatova reported.

According to her, okra prefers a warm climate and grows best in the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan, such as Batken, Osh, and Jalal-Abad, as well as in some areas of the Chui region. The plant does not have strict soil type requirements, but the best results are achieved on loose, well-drained soils with a neutral pH.

For planting on a 10-are plot, about 1.5–2 kg of seeds will be needed. Okra can be used both fresh and for processing, including freezing, drying, and canning.

The main global producers of okra are countries in Asia, with India leading the way. The grown produce is mainly exported to countries in the Middle East and Europe, creating opportunities for the development of export potential in Kyrgyzstan as well.

Note: Okra is an annual warm-loving plant with a powerful root system. Wild varieties that grow in their natural environment can have a taproot that penetrates the soil to a depth of 1-1.5 meters.
