Bishkek's grocery basket as of March 7. How prices have changed over the week
Over the past week, there has been an increase in prices for bread, rice, potatoes, peppers, carrots, eggs, and vegetable oil in Bishkek. At the same time, cucumbers, onions, cabbage, apples, and pears have become cheaper.

According to our data, the cost of the minimum grocery set decreased by 162 soms and now amounts to 7,774 soms.

We conduct weekly monitoring of prices for a fixed set of goods in the same supermarket. In the next section, we will present a detailed list of the products included in our basket and explain why they were chosen.

It should be noted that prices in supermarkets and markets may vary. Stores often have promotions on goods, which allows for savings.

Data analysis shows that since the beginning of our study in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 4,504 soms. Since the beginning of 2025, its price has risen by 1,051 soms, and compared to the same period last year, it has increased by 1,712 soms.

Of all the products included in our basket, the least expensive is bread. The cost of the basket is most influenced by fresh vegetables and fruits, which primarily determine price changes.

Throughout 2025, the cost of the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest price was recorded on October 18 at 5,791 soms, while the highest cost was observed on December 6 at 6,927 soms.

Back in 2009, the government established nutritional norms for citizens of Kyrgyzstan. According to these norms, each citizen should consume nine types of food products monthly.

The established norms include: 9 kg of bakery products, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Based on the minimum norms approved by the state, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, using prices from one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. Recently, many city residents prefer to shop in large retail chains.

It should be noted that our calculations are approximate and based on state norms. Not all families have the same dietary preferences — some may not eat meat, while others avoid sugar. Therefore, our basket should be viewed as a social experiment by 24.kg.

The bakery products in our list include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is typical, so we choose apples and bananas for fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes for vegetables. We try not to include excess items in the basket — only the most necessary products.
