Today, February 13, the first meeting of the Kyrgyz-Tajik Intergovernmental Council took place in Bishkek, attended by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev and the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda. This was reported by the government press service.

During the meeting, Adylbek Kasymaliev noted the readiness to increase the volume of supplies of various goods, including meat and dairy products, textile industry products, coal, glass, including construction and special glass, as well as sugar.

Among the topics discussed was the proposal to develop and sign a “roadmap”, which should include specific steps, responsible parties for their implementation, and timelines.

In addition, the Kyrgyz side proposed to open Trade Houses both in Kyrgyzstan and in Tajikistan. This will contribute to more effective promotion of goods, establishment of direct connections between businessmen, and creation of sustainable sales channels.

Aspects of transport and logistics cooperation were also discussed. Kasymaliev emphasized that for successful logistics development, it is necessary to improve the operation of border checkpoints and infrastructure at the border. He noted that the modernization of existing checkpoints, increasing their capacity, and developing accompanying logistics terminals, as well as implementing modern digital solutions in customs control and border administration, are important tasks.

“Kyrgyzstan is ready to become the ‘trade gateway’ for Tajik goods in the markets of the EAEU and the European Union thanks to the GSP+ system. The Republic is implementing a significant infrastructure project — the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will significantly increase the transit potential of the country and strengthen its importance as a key logistics hub in the Eurasian space. This transport corridor creates new opportunities for the Republic of Tajikistan as well,” he added.

Kasymaliev also reported that in 2025, Kyrgyzstan was visited by 86 thousand tourists from Tajikistan, which is 12 times more compared to 2024.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Protocol of the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Council was signed, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Export Development and Promotion Center “Kyrgyz Export” under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan.
