During the meeting of the permanent commission on social issues on January 23, deputy of the Bishkek city council Erjan Nasiraliyev ("Adilet") inquired about how many educational institutions in the capital use electric heating.

The head of the Education Department of the Bishkek city mayor's office, Rakhат Musaева, reported that there are 119 schools and 120 kindergartens operating in Bishkek.

Out of this number, 130 institutions are connected to central heating, 54 use gas, 46 are heated by electric boilers, 15 use coal, and five institutions employ heat pumps.

According to Nasiraliyev, in particular, school No. 84 uses electric convectors for heating. This system is characterized by the fact that heating is provided not through centralized registers, but through radiators that operate on electricity. However, this scheme poses certain problems during the learning process.

He noted that the school administration turns off the convectors on weekends to save electricity. Thus, on Fridays, at the end of the school week, the heating is turned off. As a result, on Monday morning, when the first shift students, especially first and second graders, return, the classrooms become cold.

“On one hand, this is a reasonable decision [to save electricity], but on the other hand, children are forced to study in cold classrooms during frosty weather,” commented the deputy and clarified whether there are plans to switch such schools to gas heating this year.

R. Musaева responded that schools No. 83, No. 84, and kindergarten No. 41 use electric convectors. A letter was sent to "Bishkekteploenergo" with a proposal to switch these schools to gas heating or connect them to the central heating system, she specified.
