He noted: "The purpose of introducing new requirements is to ensure quality training for drivers. Untrained drivers who purchase licenses without knowing the rules pose a danger on the road. Every year, hundreds of people die because of this!" Orunbekov wrote on his Facebook page.
He also explained how training in driving schools will be organized according to the new standards.
“Training will last for ten months. Currently, the relevant authorities are working on creating convenient conditions for citizens to offer the most comfortable training format.
This ten-month period includes theoretical and practical classes. Many believe that classes will be held daily; however, in reality, they will take place 2-3 times a week for 2-3 hours. Additionally, for those interested, there will be an option for online training. Now, let's consider the question: "Is two and a half months enough for training?" It is impossible to fully master the material in such a short time. Driving is not just sitting behind the wheel. Most of those who have trained for only two and a half months do not know the rules. The new program also includes psychological training and ethics classes. A lack of decorum and patience on the roads leads to conflicts that occur daily. We observe how people cut each other off and argue. That is why ethical issues have become part of the curriculum," Orunbekov added.
He also mentioned that in countries like Germany, Sweden, and Norway, the duration of training in driving schools varies from 6 to 12 months, while in the UK and Australia, obtaining a driver's license takes from 1.5 to 2 years.
Orunbekov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is among the countries with a high level of mortality due to traffic accidents. In 2025, there were 8,456 registered traffic accidents, resulting in 900 deaths and 12,169 injuries.
