In an interview with 24.kg, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov candidly shared his thoughts on the political events of recent years and on democracy in the context of Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that society is tired of the political "games of the elites," which, according to him, involve only "200-300 people or families." In his opinion, this has led to democratic processes losing their significance and being perceived as something discredited.

“I have long been disappointed in democracy when it began to be associated with something negative. This word has become a curse because our people do not approve of such games in which the elites act in their own interests,” he stated.

Baisalov also emphasized that during the presidential elections of 2017, he concluded that under President Almazbek Atambayev, change was impossible.

“We just had to survive Atambayev; after that, changes would become possible. I supported Omurbek Babanov and advised him: ‘You need to change the Constitution, return to a presidential model, and make the country work,’” he said.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan needs a long-term and consistent internal transformation. “This could take 20-30 years, but the main thing is to work on oneself and change the country from within,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
