During a meeting of the parliamentary committee on judicial and legal issues, law enforcement, the fight against crime, and countering corruption, Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubayeva reported that Russia has denied the repatriation of 144 Kyrgyz citizens serving sentences in Russian prisons.

According to Konkubayeva, the Kyrgyz side sent 449 requests for the transfer of convicts; however, in 144 cases, Russian authorities rejected the requests. The reasons for the refusals are that the requests did not meet the conditions of the existing agreement or concerned individuals convicted of serious crimes, including murder.

The Deputy Attorney General also mentioned that the issue of opening a representative office of the Prosecutor's Office of Kyrgyzstan in Russia had previously been considered. However, the problem of funding remains unresolved, particularly regarding the issue of salary payments to staff.
