As of today, more than 1500 citizens of Kyrgyzstan are outside the country serving prison sentences, of which approximately 1000 are held in Russian prisons. This information was presented by the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Baktyyar Kalpaev, at a recent parliamentary meeting.

“It is necessary to bring them back home, as there is a risk that they may become part of various terrorist groups. Some of them have been waiting for extradition for years, and sometimes up to ten years. It is the state's duty to protect its citizens,” emphasized the deputy.

Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva reported that currently 1210 Kyrgyz citizens are serving sentences in Russian prisons. She noted that in 2024, 128 citizens convicted abroad were returned to Kyrgyzstan, of which 118 were from Russia. In 2025, this number increased to 221, and decisions have already been made regarding 124 Kyrgyz citizens awaiting transfer.
