Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, shared his thoughts on the acute problem of the shortage of medical personnel in Kyrgyzstan in an interview with 24.kg.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Health, the republic is experiencing a shortage of about 23,000 medical workers, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics.

“The situation varies depending on the region,” noted Baisalov. He added that Kyrgyzstan differs from many developing countries, where the issue of qualified personnel is much more pressing. “We have the means to address this problem. This year, doctors will start receiving salaries in the range of 50,000 to 60,000 soms, and even more in mountainous areas. This is just the beginning, and in the future, in 2027, 2028, and 2030, the situation will improve,” he added.

Modern youth do not aspire to live under the fence. They want to see adequate infrastructure.

However, as the official emphasized, the issue is not limited to salaries alone. Young specialists must have access to housing. “Even with salaries of 50,000 to 60,000 soms and various allowances, the problem is that there is no comfortable housing for rent in villages and districts,” he noted.

Baisalov also added that young doctors want to work in modern medical facilities, while 80% of the infrastructure in the country leaves much to be desired, offering only basic amenities. “Even if we somehow attract young specialists, they quickly burn out, as they are dissatisfied with the working conditions and atmosphere,” he concluded.

It is worth noting that the current average salary of doctors in Kyrgyzstan is 31,500 soms.
