In Kyrgyzstan, at the Ministry of Health, as a result of an on-site inspection and amid rising mortality from cardiovascular diseases, two key leaders of cardiology centers were relieved of their duties.

The meeting, chaired by Health Minister Kanbek Dosmambetov, took place on January 12, where the results of the inspection of the National Center for Cardiology and Therapy named after M. Mirrakhimov (NCKiT) and the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation (NIIHSiTO) were discussed.

According to the Ministry of Health, serious deficiencies were identified in the organization of emergency care for patients with cardiovascular diseases at NCKiT. In particular, there were noted downtimes of angiographic equipment, delays in performing coronary angiographies, and the absence of round-the-clock echocardiography in intensive care units. There were also issues with the timely routing of patients and a lack of interdisciplinary consultations, which negatively affected the treatment outcomes for patients with acute coronary syndrome, despite the technical capability for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

The minister expressed dissatisfaction with the management of both institutions, stating: "If the equipment is idle and processes are not organized, mortality will rise. This is not a matter of technology, but of attitude towards the work, and that is on your conscience."

As a result of the meeting, the minister instructed to urgently equip NIIHSiTO with the necessary equipment, and for NCKiT to ensure round-the-clock echocardiography in intensive care units and to use angiographs strictly in accordance with clinical protocols. Following the identified violations, the leaders of both institutions voluntarily resigned from their positions.

Samidin Shabyraliev and his deputy.
As reported by the Ministry of Health, young but qualified specialists will be proposed for these positions, including those with experience working abroad. The Ministry also intends to continue efforts to reduce mortality from cardiovascular diseases, improve the efficiency of the cardiology service, and rationally use state resources.
