Amid the U.S. claims to an Arctic island, several countries have decided to send their military personnel to Greenland. This is reported by DW.

According to information from the German Ministry of Defense, an intelligence mission will take place from January 15 to 17 at the invitation of Denmark. "The goal is to explore military participation options to support Denmark in ensuring the security of the region, including maritime surveillance," the ministry stated.

The German delegation will consist of 13 military personnel who flew to the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, on an Airbus A400M transport aircraft on the morning of January 15. Norway will also send two soldiers, as reported by the country's Minister of Defense, Tore Sandvik. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson confirmed the dispatch of a group of officers from Sweden to the island.

Additionally, representatives from France will head to Greenland. According to Politico, troops from the Netherlands and Canada are also participating in the exercises.

Recall that after the U.S. conducted an operation to capture the President of Venezuela and his wife, Donald Trump stated that the U.S. could take action against other countries, including Greenland. Denmark's reaction, as the country controlling Greenland, to such threats was negative, and it was supported by other states, including China. However, this did not intimidate Trump, and at the beginning of the year, the media reported that he ordered special operations commanders to develop a plan for a possible invasion of Greenland. It later became known that Republican Randy Fine introduced a bill in the U.S. Congress to annex Greenland to the United States and grant it the status of an American state.
